Title: Studio Assistant Intern
Highpoint is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the art of printmaking. We provide educational programs, community access, and collaborative publishing opportunities to engage the community and increase the appreciation and understanding of the printmaking arts.
Highpoint provides:
- Educational programming for all ages and skill levels. Classes introduce students to the history, art and processes of fine printmaking through hands-on, interactive experiences.
- A printshop co-operative program that facilitates public access to a state-of-the-art printmaking studio. Community members may join the co-operative in order to independently create prints in a supportive and stimulating environment.
- A collaborative, professional printshop in which local and visiting artists can create small, fine art editions under the guidance and support of a Master Printer.
- An on-site gallery space which exhibits printmaking work created at Highpoint and around the country.
Internship Description:
The Studio Assistant Intern(s) will work with the Artistic Director/Master Printer, Assistant Printer, and Studio Manager to prepare and execute projects in all areas of operation.
Intern(s) will be expected to:
- Assist with the day-to-day studio operations
- Assist in overseeing the safe use of the shop, materials, and equipment
- Assist in ordering inventory, stocking supplies, and researching projects, techniques, and equipment
- Assist with projects, visiting artists, and special events
- Assist with other projects as needed
Intern Requirements:
Intern applicants need to be currently enrolled as a graduate student, or upper level undergraduate. Interns must be able to commit to an average of 11 weeks for 15 scheduled hours per week, Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm. (Students in their last quarter or semester should seriously consider whether their schedule can accommodate an internship requiring around 15 hours per week.) The best intern is not always the person with the most printmaking experience! Some printmaking experience is helpful, but dependability, initiative, attention to detail, organizational skills, consciousness in duties, and the ability to learn are paramount. Additionally, strong interpersonal skills, interest in printmaking practices, and the ability to work well with others are also important. Preference is given to those wishing to work consecutive terms. (Intern’s class and work schedule will be taken into account. However, once a working schedule is set punctuality and adherence to the internship hours and schedule is expected.)
Internship duration: One semester minimum (11 weeks).
Application deadlines:
- For Spring 2009: November 1
- For Summer 2008: April 18
- For Fall 2008: September 1
Work Schedule: Daytime hours, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM, Monday through Friday
Compensation: Discounts on select Highpoint classes, invitations to Highpoint special member events, free parking, and the experience of being a part of a professional center for printmaking.
Note: Interns must have reliable transportation.
