Upcoming Free Ink Days!

Free Ink for Day of the Dead
October 25, 2008
Noon–4:00 PM

Join us at Highpoint for our annual printerly celebration of the Day of the Dead! Highpoint invites one and all to join host artists Tina and Xavier Tavera in creating relief prints to take home. Visitors will be able to carve their own blocks or print blocks cut by Highpoint artists. Free Ink Days are always open to the public and of course… Free! All ages welcome. For over a decade, Maria Cristina (Tina) and Xavier Tavera have been celebrating Day of the Dead in Minneapolis through art exhibitions, ofrendas (elaborately decorated altars) and other contemporary interpretations in remembrance and honor of deceased loved ones.

What’s a Free Ink Day? Well, several times a year, Highpoint invites the community in for an afternoon of hands-on printmaking and creative fun…totally free of charge. Started in 2002, these Free Ink Days are now a cornerstone of our artistic and community programming.

On a Free Ink Day, artists and creators of all ages have the opportunity to make and take home a print or two (or three!). Artists and HP staff work with a given theme for the afternoon’s activites, a great ‘jumping off’ point for coming up with imagery and ideas. A variety of materials and techniques are available, suitable for young hands and the elder printmaker alike. Best of all, Free Ink Days are totally FREE…All materials are provided by Highpoint. Just bring your creativity, and a willingness to get inky and have fun!
