- On view: May 25 – June 30
- Residency runs: September 2011 – May 2012
Our 2011–12 Emerging Printmakers, Gwen Comings, Graham Judd, and Jonathan McFadden have been enjoying all the Minneapolis print community has to offer. The artists have visited print study rooms at the Walker Art Center and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. They have had a critique with artist and U of M print Professor Jenny Schmid, and their second critique with the director of Duluth's Tweed Museum of Art, Ken Bloom. The residents will have two additional critiques and their culminating exhibition runs from May 25 – June 30. Please join us for their opening reception Friday, May 25 from 6:30 – 9:00 pm.
As they pass the halfway point of their residency, the artists are busily working toward their exhibition:
Graham Judd has been carving large-scale black and white woodcuts, two of which were in our 20th cooperative exhibition this winter. Conceptually, Graham's work is veering away from specific character-based narrative stories to psychological, metaphorical studies.
Graham received a BFA from the University of Central Florida in 2009 and an MFA from MCAD in 2011.

Gwendolyn Comings took advantage of an 8-week Highpoint class on relief and intaglio processes adding new technical knowledge to her printmaking toolkit. Gwen has been creating woodcuts, blind-embossings, and etchings. Gwen is interested in capturing and abstracting frozen gestures from various sporting events like football games and Ultimate Fighting Championship bouts.
Gwen graduated from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2009.
Johnathan McFadden has been incorporating abstract imagery from current disasters and global catastrophes into his screenprints. For Jonathan, this series is concerned with "the now," in that he references contemporary events that occur only during the length of time he works on a particular project. Jonathan sees these works on paper as studies for a larger installation of work to be exhibited in HP's Gallery.
Johnathan received a BFA from Texas State University in 2006 and an MFA from the Edinburgh College of Art in 2009.
