Skill Level: Intermediate screen printing knowledge is preferred, but not required

Expand the bounds of your screen printing practice with a new technique that’s sure to challenge and inspire the way you approach your imagery moving forward. Learn how to translate your full color photographs or drawings into intricate screen prints through reverse thinking and painterly strokes with the reductive process!

The workshop will feature hands-on demonstrations covering screen preparation, color mixing, project stage development, editioning preparation, and registration. By the end of the class duration, participants can anticipate completing either a 5-7 layer edition of 10-15 prints or two smaller editions of 3-4 layer prints. This workshop is designed for intermediate-level participants, and prior familiarity with screen printing is recommended, but not required if you’re a fast learner!

About the instructor: Belle Hulne is a printmaker who was taught the art of relief, intaglio, and screen printing processes at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2020. Belle has always been fascinated with the natural environments surrounding the places we call home, and in recent years, she has rekindled a relationship with the expansive Northern Shores of Lake Superior. Belle draws, carves, and prints highly rendered observations of critical environments, capturing the exact moment in time she was present to experience the space. The intentionality being to uplift the external spaces we should be protecting and bringing those environments into the residential homes we occupy.
