Much has been happening with the Full Color Print Fellows Whitney Terrill and Gabi Estrada since they began their fellowship in October 2023. The fellows (along with Jerome Residents and McKnight Fellows) have had the opportunity to attend guided exhibition tours of Multiple Realities: Experimental Art in the Eastern Bloc, 1960s–1980s and Keith Haring: Art is for Everybody at the Walker Art Center, and a visit to the Wangensteen Historical Library of Biology and Medicine at the U of MN.
This is the second full year of this fellowship program. In response to fellow feedback, we introduced a mentorship component, pairing each fellow with artists who can support their individual artistic and professional goals. Gabi regularly meets Cities. In August, Whitney led a two-part workshop at the Minneapolis Institute of Art titled Introduction to Color Drypoint Intaglio | Drawing Inspiration from African American Printmaking History. This unique class allowed the participants to draw on examples of historical and contemporary African American artists from Mia’s collection. As working co-op members, Whitney and Gabi showed work in Highpoint’s most recent Hot Off the Press exhibition. The call for applicants for the 2024- 2025 Full Color Fellowship went live in July. We expect to introduce the incoming Full Color Print Fellows in October. Whitney and Gabi will both stay on as community members
2023 is the second full year of this fellowship program. In response to fellow feedback, we introduced a mentorship component, pairing each fellow with artists who can support their individual artistic and professional goals. Gabi regularly meets with mentor Fidencio Fifield-Perez (current McKnight Printmaking Fellow). Whitney has sought mentorship from artists Katayoun Amjadi and Kara Faye Gregory. In addition to mentorship, Gabi and Whitney received studio visits from artist and educator Miguel Aragón when he visited Minneapolis in April. During his visit, Miguel also taught several instructional workshops at Highpoint, which Gabi and Whitney also participated in.
On the topic of instruction, another benefit that the Fellowship provides is free access to printmaking workshops. Whitney and Gabi have taken many of the workshops that Highpoint offers and have begun teaching their own adult print workshops at Highpoint and studios around the Twin Cities.
