Multi-Session Workshop: Capturing with Cyanotype

Date/Time: Saturday 9/13, 10am-4pm

Ages: 16+

Cost: $130

Registration deadline: Saturday 8/30

Maximum enrollment: 10

Instructor: Gabi Estrada

Skill Level: This class is beginner friendly, with no prior printmaking experience required. Participants can anticipate drawing onto transparencies and using xacto knives to cut into paper to develop stencils. Regardless of skill level in these techniques, this process can expand to accommodate a range of abilities in creating compositions.

In this weekend workshop, students will learn how they can capture moments, objects, movement, and imagery using cyanotype. This class will introduce students to the basics of how cyanotype works and will encourage their individual or collaborative explorations of the marks that can be made with the technique. Students will learn how to develop impressions with the support of images drawn onto transparencies, cut into paper stencils, or found objects. Due to the fluidity of this medium, we will lean into improvising and embracing the beauty that can come from irregularities in cyanotype.

About the instructor: Gabi Estrada (they/them) is a Mexican-American printmaker and arts educator based in Minneapolis. Their practice is rooted in identity and storytelling, honoring their ancestors and elders. They believe in the power that art has to facilitate healing and community building, which they prioritize in their art and pedagogy.
