Multi-Session Workshop: Etching in Color

Date/Time: Tuesdays 6-9pm; 9/30, 10/7, 10/14, 10/21, 10/28, 11/4

Ages: 18+

Cost: $300

Registration deadline: Tuesday 9/16

Maximum enrollment: 10

Instructor: Carley Schmidt

Skill Level: Students taking this course should have a working understanding of intaglio. This is an intermediate level class.

This intermediate course offers students an opportunity to hone their introductory intaglio skills, with the addition of colorful new techniques. The class will focus on soft ground etching with the addition of relief roll and/or monoprint elements. Participants will develop a soft ground etching plate using hand drawn lines, or found objects to create texture. Students will experiment with relief roll and monotype techniques to find the best fit for their image. Each participant will leave the class with a small edition of their image.

About the instructor: Carley Schmidt is a Minneapolis-based artist whose practice primarily consists of printmaking, papermaking, and collage. Her work explores place as part of a cumulative narrative about human impact and land. Carley received her MFA in printmaking from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a BA in studio art from Gonzaga University. She was a Highpoint Studio Intern in 2023.
