En este taller de 6 horas dividido en dos sesiones, exploraremos y reflexionaremos sobre el complejo y desafiante viaje que deben vivir los animales en su migración, transformándolos en impresiones en linograbado (linocut) y uniéndolos en una pieza colectiva mediante la técnica Paste-Up.
Sesión 1: Por el Aire, el Agua o la Tierra
En esta sesión, hablaremos sobre diferentes animales que migran por el aire, el agua y la tierra, sus desafíos y propósitos de migración, y también cómo estos se relacionan con las migraciones humanas. Inspirándote de las reflexiones que surjan, crearás dos imágenes de 6 x 4 pulgadas: una con el animal que elegirás en este viaje y otra que capture la esencia de la migración. Estas dos imágenes las transferirás a dos bloques de linóleo y aprenderás a cómo tallarlas e imprimirlas usando dos capas de color.
Sesión 2: Una constelación de viajes
En esta sesión, crearemos una pieza colectiva de Linocut-Paste-Up que será instalada en una de las paredes del edificio de Highpoint Center for Printmaking: aprenderemos los usos del Paste-up, cómo hacer pasta de almidón de yuca (engrudo natural) usando ingredientes y materiales simples, y cómo adherir tus impresiones de linóleo a las paredes.
In this 6-hour workshop divided into two sessions, we will explore and reflect on the complex and challenging journey that animals must experience in their migration, transforming them into linocut prints and joining them into a collective piece using the Paste-Up technique.
Session 1: Por el Aire, el Agua o la Tierra (Through Air, Water or Land)
In this session, we will discuss different animals that migrate through the air, water and land, their challenges and purposes of migration, and also how these are related to human migrations. Inspired by the reflections that arise, you will create two 6 x 4 inch images: one with the animal you will choose on this journey and another that captures the essence of migration. These two images will be transferred to two linoleum blocks, and you will learn the fundamentals of carving in linocut and two-layer color printing.
Session 2: Una constelación de viajes (A constellation of journeys)
In this session, we'll learn the uses of paste-up, how to make cassava starch paste using simple ingredients and materials, and how to stick it on a wall or flat surface. Together, we will create a collective paste-up piece using the prints of session 1: “Por el aire, la tierra y el agua”.
Sobre la tallerista | About the instructor:
Lynda Grafito es una artista visual de Colombia cuyo trabajo artístico la ha inspirado a crear varios talleres para compartir su conocimiento sobre el linograbado y entablar conversaciones sobre temas ambientales y sociales. Los talleres de linograbado de Lynda, se han llevado a cabo alrededor de las twin cities; Cuerpx & Estampa (2023): para el Día Internacional de la Mujer en CLUES, Saint Paul, para el programa The Healing Circle en la Biblioteca Oxboro en Bloomington y en Centro Tyrone Guzmán, Minneapolis, en colaboración con Copla Murals; Flore-Ser (2023): para Primavera Art Festival de CLUES, Minneapolis. Además, ha dirigido talleres introductorios de linograbado para el Programa Juvenil de The Park Place, Minneapolis, y Urban Roots, Saint Paul, donde colaboró con los jóvenes para crear una idea de diseño de mural para dicha organización. Recientemente, ganó la subvención Creative Response Fund 2023 para EnVulvArte, un proyecto para crear arte y un espacio seguro para que las mujeres latinas se reconecten con sus cuerpos.
Lynda Grafito is a visual artist from Colombia whose artistic work has inspired her to create various workshops to share her knowledge about linocuts and engage in conversations about environmental and social issues. Lynda’s linocut workshops Cuerpx & Estampa (2023) have been held at several venues, including The International Women's Day at CLUES, Saint Paul; Centro Tyrone Guzmán, Minneapolis; and The Healing Circle at Oxboro Library in Bloomington in collaboration with Copla Murals. She created Flore-Ser (2023) workshop for Primavera Art Festival at Clues, Minneapolis. Additionally, she has conducted introductory linocut workshops for the Youth Program of The Park Place, Minneapolis, and Urban Roots, Saint Paul, where she collaborated with the youths to create a mural design idea for this organization. She recently won the Creative Response Fund 2023 grant for EnVulvArte, a project to create art and a safe space for Latina women to reconnect with their bodies.
