Handprinted bookmarks can be a meaningful gift, a personal piece of art to carry with you, and a beautiful tool to use in one’s books. In this beginner-friendly workshop, participants will be introduced to contact paper screenprinting while designing and printing their own bookmarks.
Students will create a 2 x 8 inch design and learn techniques such as split fountains, flat color printing, and individualized mark-making. To foster sharing and connection, the class will participate in a bookmark exchange, with each participant printing enough copies to trade and take home extras. Beginners and experienced printers alike are welcome to enjoy this creative exchange-focused workshop.
Students are welcome to bring ribbons, tassels, or other attachments to personalize their bookmarks.
About the instructor: Through drawing, painting, and printmaking, Lindsey Reyes explores the magic inherent in our world, how people interpret this magic through our stories and art, and the creation of art as a human act. Lindsey graduated with a BFA in Integrated Studio Arts at Iowa State University. She has taught students at Marine Mills Folk School and through ArtistYear, an AmeriCorps program.
As someone who has taught in different spaces, she has observed that people of all ages are afraid of making something less than perfect, which causes many to believe they can’t make art. Lindsey deeply believes that creating art isn’t limited to only masters of the craft, and enjoys engaging with students during any stage of their creative journeys.
