Studio Coordinator (Part-Time)

$20/hour

10–15 hours per week

Reports to the Director of Artist Programs

Work is performed onsite Monday–Friday, 9–5, with occasional weeknights and weekends. 

Highpoint Center for Printmaking (HP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the art of printmaking. Its goals are to provide educational programs, community access, and collaborative publishing opportunities to engage the community and increase the appreciation and understanding of the printmaking arts through the following core programs: 

  • Educational Programming & Community Programs in printmaking for all ages and backgrounds.

  • A Printshop Cooperative, which provides access for local artists to create and show their work in a supportive workshop environment.

  • A Visiting Artists Program—local, national, and international in scope—through which invited artists create original prints with the Highpoint Editions Studio.

  • Artist Support Programs for early and mid-career artists

  • A Gallery that enables visitors to view exhibitions of local, national, and international prints. 

Position Summary

The Studio Coordinator supports the daily operations, maintenance, and organization of Highpoint’s cooperative printmaking studio, Highpoint Editions studio, and adjacent workspaces. This position ensures a safe, clean, and well-stocked environment for artists, visitors, and staff. The Coordinator coordinates supply management, routine cleaning, and light facilities support across all printmaking areas—including lithography, intaglio/ferric, screenprinting, and shared studio spaces. The Studio Coordinator also supports Highpoint’s rotating exhibition spaces and the design and construction of studio furniture as needed. Finally, the Studio Coordinator also provides assistance with basic maintenance and repair of Highpoint’s buildings and grounds including (but not limited to) on property gardens, storage spaces, building exterior and building interior.

We’re looking for a collaborative, self-starter who is enthusiastic about the operational work that creates a studio environment where artists feel supported. 

Primary Responsibilities

Maintenance and Cleaning (40%)

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization across all studio areas within the cooperative print studio and Highpoint Editions studio as well as the staff kitchen, bathrooms, and common areas. (e.g., sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning surfaces).

  • Maintain cleanliness and working operation of studio equipment, furniture, and tools.

  • Coordinates trash, recycling, yard waste, and compost collection.

  • Refill and maintain bathroom and kitchen expendables.

  • Contribute to general cleanliness and appearance of Highpoint exterior and grounds.

  • Occasional maintenance and cosmetic repairs of building interior and exterior. 

Inventory, Supply, and Chemical Management (10%)

  • Restock studio expendables in each technique area while employing safe-handling practices for hazardous materials.

  • Monitor bulk supply levels for Highpoint Editions, co-op studio, and common areas; coordinate restocking with the Studio Manager.

  • Refill and organize cleaning and maintenance materials and cleaning expendables.

  • Assist with monthly inventory of expendable materials and maintain documentation of restock needs.

Equipment, Safety, and Organization (20%)

  • Inspect studio equipment and facilities to ensure proper function and cleanliness.

  • Clean and maintain specialized equipment (e.g., presses, ferric tanks, rollers and brayers).

  • Oversee supply of studio rags and collection of soiled-soaked rags while maintaining  compliance with studio safety procedures.

  • Organize studio storage areas, utility closets, and supply shelves to maintain accessibility and order.

  • Assist with construction, repair, and maintenance of studio furniture as needed.

Front-of-House (20%)

  • Support logistics,  installation, de-installation, and upkeep of exhibitions and Highpoint Editions display inventory.

  • Support kitchen cleanliness and organization (including microwave, refrigerator, and counters).

  • Care for indoor plants and monitor gallery/office appearance for visitor readiness.

Team and Studio Support (10%)

  • Collaborate with Studio Manager regarding  supply shortages, maintenance concerns, or safety issues.

  • Provide support for light administrative, exhibition, event, or workshop setup tasks as needed.

  • Serve as a resource for co-op members during shifts, ensuring shared spaces are welcoming and functional.

Qualifications

  • Experience working in a shared art studio, makerspace, or related art environment preferred.

  • Experience with printmaking techniques and/;or familiarity with a printmaking studio preferred.

  • Familiarity with artistic processes and safe handling of studio materials and/or chemicals preferred.

  • Detail-oriented and proactive in maintaining cleanliness and organization.

  • Strong communication skills and a commitment to maintaining an inclusive, collaborative environment.

Working Conditions/ Physical Demands

  • Work is performed entirely on site and in person

  • Requires frequent lifting, carrying, or otherwise moving and positioning objects weighing up to 40 pounds 

  • Requires the ability to stand for several hours at a time

  • Requires bending, stooping, and crouching on a regular basis

  • Requires occasional use of the phone and/or a computer to research materials, enter data and provide information in a clear and understandable manner

  • Must have reliable means to travel to and from Highpoint, but a car is not required

  • Requires ability to work outdoors and in a variety of weather conditions for short periods of time
