Development and Communications Manager
$55–60,000 annually DOE
40 hours per week; FTE

Works collaboratively with the Director of Artist Programs, Education Manager, and Administrative Coordinator
Work is performed on-site from 9 am to 5 pm, with occasional evening and weekend events and off-site workshops and meetings. Occasional travel required.
Highpoint Center for Printmaking (HP) is dedicated to advancing the art of printmaking. We create pathways for artists, learners, and the public to increase their understanding and appreciation of printmaking through artistic and educational programs, a cooperative studio, a public gallery, and collaborative publishing opportunities.
Summary
Highpoint is seeking a dynamic Development and Communications Manager to manage all aspects of development operations. Key areas of responsibility include grants management, donor and member engagement and event planning, and driving a communications strategy that elevates our visibility, deepens stakeholder relationships, and supports our fundraising efforts. Together with the Executive Director, they will activate a robust and integrated development strategy, committed to engaging foundational, governmental, and individual contributors in alignment with our strategic plan and organizational values.
The ideal candidate is a charismatic storyteller with exceptional interpersonal and project management skills. They have a passion for our mission and a proven record of achieving fundraising goals. They have previous experience developing communications plans, overseeing annual campaigns, and understand the importance of an integrated vision, brand, and voice, for engaging constituents at all levels. They can adapt to a range of personalities, anticipate others' needs and meet them where they are, and have a sense of humor and grace under pressure.
Grants Writing and Management (40%)
• Identify and research potential grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
• Collaborate with the Executive Director and program staff to develop, write, and submit compelling grant proposals, ensuring alignment with funder priorities and organizational needs.
• Maintain an annualized calendar of grants to track application and reporting deadlines
• Collaborate with program and administrative staff to gather data, budgets, and narratives in support of grant activities and their impact and submit timely reports.
Member and Donor Engagement (30%)
• Together with the Executive Director, develop and implement strategies for donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
• Manage the annual fund, including campaign and appeal development in partnership with the Executive Director. These activities include: manage constituent lists and appeal letters, produce digital and printed collateral, design benefits levels and stewardship gifts, gift channels, and stewardship letters
• Oversee a donor management database (CRM) to ensure accurate records, gift processing and acknowledgements
• Develop personalized engagement strategies for donors and members, providing warm and prompt responses, building lasting relationships and instilling passion for our mission
• Work with the Executive Director to plan and execute fundraising and cultivation events, including patron benefit programs and travel opportunities
• Serves as an ambassador for Highpoint at select events, cultivates and stewards relationships
Communications Management (20%)
• Works with the Executive Director to set Highpoint’s organization-wide communications strategy in alignment with our mission, and in support of our programmatic and fundraising goals
• Ensure consistent voice, brand, and design treatments across communications channels
• Manage communications and design projects in support of Highpoint’s annual program schedule and content calendar, including web, Presstime, annual reports,
• Oversee a part-time team member in creating designed and written content for newsletter, social media, web, and printed materials
• Oversee relationships with external vendors, such as designers, photographers, digital printers, and ensures projects are completed on time and within budget
Collaboration and Administration (10%)
• Develop and track progress on fundraising goals and produce related reports
• Oversees budget for Development and Communications
• Provides oversight for a part-time team member, tracking progress and providing clear direction and feedback
• Provides assistance at cultivation events as needed
• Tracks development and communications data and produces reports for leadership as needed
• Other tasks related to development or communications as assigned by the Executive Director
Desired Qualifications: Education, Experiences, Knowledge, and Abilities
The ideal candidate possesses all of these qualifications: an understanding of our organization and excitement for our mission; proven experience in individual fundraising, grant writing, communications strategy, and event planning; and someone who shares our values and can add to our culture. Compensation will be commensurate with lived or professional experience in these areas.
Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit or Business Administration, Communications, or related field and at least 3 years of professional experience in nonprofit development and communications, OR 5 years of professional experience.
Demonstrated experience in cultivating and maintaining relationships with members, donors, and/or supporters
Proven success in writing and securing grants
Experience in content creation, including copywriting experience for a variety of platforms and formats, and exceptional proofreading skills
Exceptional organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines effectively
Strong understanding of customer relations management software (CRM), Salesforce or similar
Experience overseeing staff or contractors
Experience overseeing a budget; understanding of non-profit finance a plus
Ability to work collaboratively and diplomatically
Humility and an adaptive mindset
Knowledge of contemporary art and artists' practices a plus
A passion for our mission and a desire to work in conversation with the broader arts and cultural fields
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
Requires the ability to work for several hours at a time at a desk
Typically stands, bends, stoops, and crouches on a regular basis to provide support for day-to-day activities and events
Requires frequent use of a telephone and computer to provide information in a clear and understandable manner
Requires the ability to stand for long periods of time, notably during event set-up
Requires the ability to lift, carry, or otherwise move and position objects weighing up to 40 pounds
Benefits
Health insurance: HP pays 85% of the cost of the full-time employee’s premium and 50% of the cost of the employee’s spouse or dependent coverage if elected by the employee.
Dental insurance: HP pays 50% of the cost of the full-time employee’s premium and 50% of the cost of the employee’s spouse or dependent coverage if elected by the employee.
Retirement plan: HP will contribute 2% of the employee’s income to an IRA, and if elected, the employee may contribute an additional percentage.
Annual Employee Development Fund for professional growth.
Sick and safe time: 1 hour for every 30 hours worked
Vacation: Two weeks paid vacation upon start, plus 12 major holidays and one floating holiday (vacation time increases with employee tenure).
Parental Leave: 6 weeks Paid Parental Leave upon start; no waiting period or accrual required.
Free classes at Highpoint Center for Printmaking, pending availability (up to $400 per class value).
Membership to Highpoint’s Printmaking Cooperative ($2,100 value, start date pending printmaking experience with the option to take free classes)
Complimentary Walker Art Center membership (Up to $175 value)
One Highpoint Editions print per year, the selection of which is based on availability (value varies by year and selection, estimated $3,000 value)
