“In works such as “The Beautyful Ones” May Have Arrived, Akunyili Crosby instills a sense of inner life into her figures who are presented in domestic environs that meld the Nigeria of her youth and the America of her maturity and that literally bear their histories and culture—printed onto the metal of the radiator, the wood of the baseboard and table, the broad seams of a dress. These somewhat washed-out visual sparklings press back into the depicted image but simultaneously and animatedly burst forward into the mind in the forms of the hopes and dreams of the young sitter, who stares out into a light manilla-hued void, enveloped by the past but expectant and embracing of the future.” Read more from Jason Rosenfeld’s essay here.

A VIBRANT COMMUNITY
HIGHPOINT CO-OP has been a core part of HP’s mission since its founding in 2001. Co-op artists gain access to HP's printmaking facilities, equipment and storage, and exhibition opportunities, receive discounts on classes, and benefit from mutual feedback and support, encouraging artistic practice and development. As the only independent, community-driven, and fully-equipped printmaking center in the region, HP’s co-op space is an essential resource for the artistic growth of professional and developing printmakers alike.
PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT AND VISIBILITY FOR WORKING ARTISTS
HIGHPOINT EDITIONS’ visiting artist studio is set up for an artist to apply new printing techniques to their practice, efficiently test prints, provide technical support, and encourage creative exploration. The dedicated artist studio allows visiting artists time to work quietly yet with direct access to HP's professional printing studio and printing staff. During their experience, the artists work to complete a new body of work – often working in printmaking for the first time – that will be exhibited in the Highpoint galleries, print fairs, or eventually, may be acquired by a museum or private collection.

CREATIVE EXPERIENCES FOR ARTISTS, VIEWERS, AND NEIGHBORS
GALLERIES annually features work from each of Highpoint’s studio programs (co-op, classroom, Jerome Residency, McKnight Fellowship, and Highpoint Editions). Twice a year, we showcase work from other national and international artists through curated and juried exhibitions.
A highlight: this year, we had the opportunity to feature work by Fidencio Fifield-Perez. His work combines printmaking, installation, and painting and reflects on the ambiguity of boundaries in artistic medium and perception and the experience of immigration, revealing that solace can be found in the in-between.
PROGRAMS DESIGNED FOR ARTISTS AT ALL STAGES OF THEIR CAREERS
Highpoint supports artists through the Jerome Early Career Residency Program, the McKnight Printmaking Fellowship for mid-career artists, the Full Color Print Fellowship and the Teaching Artist Learning Community for BIPOC artists. These programs provide a monetary stipend, access to the Highpoint co-op space, exhibition opportunities, technical support, and more.

OPPORTUNITIES TO GROW
EDUCATION PROGRAMS Each year, Highpoint serves thousands of K-12 youth in Minnesota through in-person printmaking classes and events.
Highpoint engages students from all backgrounds who have little or no previous knowledge of printmaking and may not have arts programming in their schools. Highpoint provides students with professional instruction, tools, and equipment to create hand-made prints all their own. The classroom at Highpoint is a place for people of all ages and backgrounds to explore and trust their artistic strengths through the incredibly versatile medium of printmaking.
