Weekend Workshop: Color Theory for Printmakers

Date/Time: Saturday 7/12, 9-5pm

Ages: 16+

Cost: $160

Registration deadline: Saturday 6/28

Maximum enrollment: 10

Instructor: Louise Fisher

Skill Level: Previous experience with relief printing is helpful, but not required

In this 1-day course, students will learn how to mix any color imaginable using traditional oil-based printmaking inks. This class is great for any artist who needs to expand their palette or feels intimidated by color. Special attention will be placed on printmaking, but can be easily translated into other art mediums such as painting. The first half of the session will cover color theories, developing a “personal” palette, and color mixing demonstrations. In the second half of the session, students will create a varied edition of color swatch prints using wood blocks provided by the instructor.

About the instructor: Louise Fisher (she/her) is an Minnesota-based visual artist residing in the Twin Cities, where she teaches drawing and printmaking courses in the Art Department at Normandale Community College. Her most recent accomplishments include receiving the 2023-2024 Jerome Fellowship at Minnesota Center for Book Arts and the 2021 Jordan Holly Fellowship Award as an artist-in-residence at In Cahoots. In her work, Louise explores themes of the natural and built environment through prints, artist books and installations.
