Explore the playful and surprising world of lithography in this hands-on introductory workshop! No prior printmaking experience is needed other than curiosity and a willingness to experiment.
Students will learn the fundamentals of lithographic image-making using accessible, alternative materials such as aluminum foil, polyester plates, and even waterless lithography processes. Through guided demonstrations and studio work time, participants will develop a drawing, process and ink their plates, and create prints using three distinct lithographic techniques.
Alongside technical skills like plate preparation, drawing development, inking, and printing, students will gain a practical understanding of how lithography works and how to continue experimenting confidently at home or as a stepping stone toward stone lithography.
Class sessions will include demos, dedicated work time, space for individual questions, and supportive group reflection. Mistakes are welcomed as part of the creative process as they’re often where the best learning happens!
Please come with an idea or sketch you'd like to explore.
All materials will be provided and are covered by the cost of the workshop.
Beginner level, no previous experience required.
This workshop will be taught in both English and Spanish.
