Ready to explore the world of screen printing? This Introduction to Screen Printing class is the perfect way to dive into this dynamic art form! In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to create stunning, multi-layered prints from start to finish, gaining the skills to bring your designs to life on paper.
We’ll walk through every step of the process, starting with preparing your screen and moving through the essential techniques—like mixing inks, pulling prints with a squeegee, and mastering the art of layering. You’ll explore a variety of stencil-making methods, from cut paper to hand-drawn designs to digital transparencies, and learn how to combine these techniques to create bold, expressive prints.
By the end of the class, you’ll have completed a series of beautiful prints, with the chance to participate in a group print exchange. This fun final activity lets you swap prints with fellow participants, so you’ll leave with a unique print from each class member, celebrating the creative community you’ve built.

About the instructor: Rebecca Johannsen, “Jo” (She/Her) is a printmaker and educator based in the Twin Cities, currently serving as Highpoint’s Education Programs Manager. Jo leads a diverse range of educational initiatives aimed at fostering creativity and learning across age groups. With over a decade of experience in art education, Jo's role includes designing and facilitating programs for K-12 students, adult learners, and emerging artists. In addition to her educational work, Jo owns and operates "Average Jo Prints," a printmaking business specializing in screen printed goods.

Registration and payment may be completed through this website. You will receive an introductory email the week of your workshop from your instructor.
WORKSHOP TRANSFERS, CANCELLATIONS, & REFUNDS
Our workshops are intentionally small to ensure each participant receives personalized instruction and access to Highpoint's studios and equipment. Because we commit to our teaching artists and prepare materials in advance, cancellations can have a significant impact on our ability to run a workshop.

TRANSFERS
If you're no longer able to attend, we encourage you to transfer your registration whenever possible.
Transfer to another workshop: You may transfer your registration to another Highpoint workshop up to 7 days before your workshop, subject to availability. If the new workshop has a different tuition rate, you will be responsible for paying the difference or will receive a refund for the difference, if applicable.
Transfer to another person: If you're unable to attend, you may transfer your registration to a friend or family member at any time at no additional charge. Please email Jo with the new participant's name and email address before the workshop begins.
CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS
7 or more days before your workshop: Receive a full refund of your tuition and materials fees, less a $25 processing fee.
Less than 7 days before your workshop: Refunds are not available. However, you may transfer your registration to another person as described above.
The $25 processing fee is waived if Highpoint cancels the workshop.
WORKSHOP CANCELLATIONS BY HIGHPOINT
Occasionally, a workshop may need to be canceled due to insufficient enrollment, instructor illness, or inclement weather. If Highpoint cancels a workshop, you will receive a full refund, including all tuition, materials fees, and any processing fees.
Thank you for your understanding and support. These policies help us continue offering high-quality workshops while supporting our teaching artists and maintaining our small class sizes.

A limited number of full tuition scholarships are available through the Full Color Print Scholarship, which provides free classes to individuals who identify as Black, Indigenous, and People of Color.
