Skill Level: Intermediate
This intermediate course builds on introductory intaglio skills while introducing students to printing with multiple colors. Focusing on soft ground etching and relief rolls, the class combines demonstrations, image development, color mixing, and dedicated studio work time. Participants will create a soft ground etching plate using hand-drawn lines or found objects to capture texture, then expand their imagery by experimenting with relief rolls and stenciling techniques. By the end of the course, each student will produce a small edition or a series of unique prints.
Students taking this course should have a working understanding of intaglio.
About the instructor: Carley Schmidt (she/her) is a Minneapolis-based artist whose practice primarily consists of printmaking, papermaking, and collage. Her work explores place as part of a cumulative narrative about human impact and land. Carley received her MFA in printmaking from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a BA in studio art from Gonzaga University. She is Highpoint’s Communications Manager and co-op member.

WORKSHOP TRANSFERS, CANCELLATIONS, & REFUNDS
Our workshops are intentionally small to ensure each participant receives personalized instruction and access to Highpoint's studios and equipment. Because we commit to our teaching artists and prepare materials in advance, cancellations can have a significant impact on our ability to run a workshop.
If you need to make a change to your registration, please contact Jo Johannsen at jo@highpointprintmaking.org or call 612-278-4162.
TRANSFERS
If you're no longer able to attend, we encourage you to transfer your registration whenever possible.
Transfer to another workshop: You may transfer your registration to another Highpoint workshop up to 7 days before your workshop, subject to availability. If the new workshop has a different tuition rate, you will be responsible for paying the difference or will receive a refund for the difference, if applicable.
Transfer to another person: If you're unable to attend, you may transfer your registration to a friend or family member at any time at no additional charge. Please email Jo with the new participant's name and email address before the workshop begins.
CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS

Less than 7 days before your workshop: Refunds are not available. However, you may transfer your registration to another person as described above.
The $25 processing fee is waived if Highpoint cancels the workshop.
WORKSHOP CANCELLATIONS BY HIGHPOINT
