Please join us in welcoming and congratulating the 2026-2027 Jerome Early Career Printmakers Mai Tran, Whalen Polikoff, and Horacio Devoto! The residency began September 1 and will culminate with a three-person exhibition in Highpoint’s galleries in July 2027.
These three artists were selected from an extremely strong applicant pool by panelists Juleana Enright and Rachel Collier. They will receive twelve months of access to the artists’ cooperative printshop at Highpoint, credit towards Highpoint classes and individual instruction, a stipend, four separate in-progress critiques with special guests, and much more. An introduction to each of the incoming residents is below.
Born and raised in Vietnam, Mai Tran (she/her) is a Minnesota-based printmaker and photographer whose practice explores migration, cultural memory, mythology, and human and non-human relationships. Rooted in Vietnamese cultural traditions and shaped by her experiences in the American Midwest, her work considers how identities, environments, and ecosystems are continually reshaped through movement, adaptation, and loss. She is an active printmaker whose work has been exhibited nationally and internationally.
Mai is currently a lecturer in printmaking at the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities. She holds an MFA in Printmaking from the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities, as well as an MA and BFA in Printmaking and Photography from Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Horacio Devoto (he/him) is an Argentine-born artist living and working in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His screenprints combine photography, generated imagery, and hand-drawn images into layered atmospheric landscapes. In his series Burning Desert, the desert stands in for irreversible change — climate collapse and technological acceleration held together as a single unease. Growing up amid instability in Argentina shaped an early sense of fragility that runs through his work. Horacio has been a co-op member at Highpoint since 2022 and was a 2024 Full Color Fellow. He holds an M.A. from the University of Minnesota and a B.A. from UC Santa Cruz.
Whalen Polikoff (he/him) received his MFA from the University of Minnesota in 2024. He is an interdisciplinary artist working in painting, drawing, and printmaking. He navigates the visual, verbal, metaphysical culture that shaped his early childhood growing up in Central New York. As a cancer survivor, his diagnosis in high school continues to inform the urgency of his practice and his relationship to witnessing/confronting.
About the review panelists:
Juleana Enright (Lower Brule, Lakota) (they/them) is an Indigenous, queer, writer, curator, theater artist and ceramist based in Minneapolis, MN. They have contributed to local literary platforms Pride Magazine, MnArtists, mplsart, Primer and City Pages, as well as the national magazine, Hand Paper Making. Juleana has curated six art exhibitions, including Soft Boundaries, Anomalies, biskaabiiyang (returning to ourselves), and the Green Roof Poetry series at the Walker Art Center. Juleana is a recipient of the Emerging Curators Institute 2020-21 Fellowship program, and has held fellowships with MnArtists, Sixty Inches from Center and Franconia Sculpture Park. Through their practice, Juleana strives to examine the act of daily creation amidst great chaos.
Rachel Collier (she/her) is an artist working in Minneapolis. Collier's work is rendered in expansive color, transcribing ecstatic realms that populate our shared consciousness. Collier has a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and recent exhibitions and publications include HAIR+NAILS Gallery (NYC, Minneapolis), Felix Fair (LA), NADA Miami (Miami), Intersect Fair (Aspen, CO), Door County Contemporary Art Fair (Fish Creek, WI), the Nemeth Art Center (Park Rapids, MN), I Love You Too (Portland), TOA Presents (Cody, Wyoming), Carolyn Glasoe Bailey Foundation (Ojai, CA), Rochester Art Center (Rochester, MN), Hawthorne Contemporary (Milwaukee, WI), New American Paintings, MN Artists. Residencies include: Nido invitational residency, Monte Castello di Vibio, Umbria, Italy; Anderson Ranch Arts Center, Snowmass Village, CO; The Wassaic Project, Wassaic, NY; Anderson Center Jerome Emerging Artist Residency and Fellowship, Red Wing, MN. Collier is an editor of CLOIIOLC (Coil Coil) arts magazine and an Associate Director of the Cloud House Residency at Dreamsong Gallery.
