Andrew Smith, Untitled, lithograph
I am originally from Texas and moved to Saint Paul in 2022. My wife alerted me to the studio at Highpoint after seeing it highlighted in a New York Times article and set up a date to check it out (kudos to her!). I've been a member of the co-op ever since.
I studied lithography under Tom Druecker and Margaret Simpson at the University of Texas, graduating in 2009. After nearly 15 years away from printmaking, with an engineering degree in between, I have returned to the stone.
My work explores my memory, loss, and the loss of memory. I try to use the images I create to process these feelings, a form of visual therapy. More recently, I have been experimenting with allegory and storytelling as a way to process loss.
Highpoint has provided an amazing place for me to regrow my love of lithography.
