Tales from the Co-op: Mads Golitz

Mads Golitz, Confirmation, lithograph

My first experience with printmaking was in high school where I taught myself how to screenprint from my bedroom using Wikihow and YouTube. It was entirely DIY with my closet as the darkroom and bathtub as the washout booth. I continued to learn printmaking in college, earning a BFA in Studio Arts. After working in education for a few years, I found my way to Highpoint through their Education Internship. I am incredibly grateful for that experience as it opened the door to many other opportunities, such as teaching workshops and my current position as the Education Programs Assistant.

I spent the last couple years learning new printmaking methods and exploring familiar ones. Now I am beginning to apply these technical skills to themes around queer identity and spirituality. Specifically, imagining how they might dismantle or grow among the ruins of harmful structures and cycles. I am exploring ways to communicate these ideas through symbolic imagery using intaglio, lithography, and monotype methods. I feel so fortunate to have the co-op as a supportive foundation for this work.
