In this workshop, you’ll design a repeating pattern that fits together seamlessly, then use a carving tool to transfer and carve it into a soft, easy-to-cut block. Prints are created by adding ink to the block and pressing it onto paper—similar to a stamp. Because your design tessellates, you can repeat it across the page to build intricate patterns. Reuse your block again and again to create interlocking compositions!

Create and take home 6 pronto plate litho prints! In this workshop, you will draw on a polyester plate using waterproof drawing materials. You’ll use water to dampen your plate, add ink, and send it through the printing press to transfer your image. The result is a rich, detailed black and white print. 

Create and take home an edition of 6 bold, graphic screen prints! In this workshop, you’ll cut designs into contact paper and adhere it to a screen to create a stencil. Prints are created by pushing ink through the screen using a squeegee. By using the stencil again and again, you’ll end up with 6 identical prints! 

Create and take home an edition of 6 screen printed zines! In this workshop, you’ll learn how to create stencils for screen printing using paint markers and a photosensitive material called emulsion. Prints are created by pushing ink through the screen with a squeegee, and by reusing your stencil, you’ll produce a set of 6 identical prints. You’ll also explore the basics of zine making, assembling your prints into small, self-published booklets to share or keep.

Create and take home 6 pressure prints! In this workshop, you will arrange paper stencils, fabric, and other materials on a backing sheet to create a collage. You’ll place the paper on an inked piece of plexiglass and run it through the printing press to transfer the image. The result is a soft, textured print. 

Create and take home an edition of 6 multi-layered reduction relief prints! In this workshop, you’ll carve a design in stages into a soft, easy-to-cut block. After each carving step, you’ll apply ink and print onto paper, building layers of color and detail one at a time. With each stage, more of the block is carved away. By the end, you’ll have 6 identical layered prints!

Create and take home 6 chine collé prints! In this workshop, you will combine printmaking with collage by adhering thin decorative papers onto a thicker backing sheet during the printing process. You’ll apply adhesive to your delicate paper, place it onto your printing surface, ink your plate, and run everything through the press to bond the layers together. The result is a richly textured print with subtle color and intricate detail.

Water soluble monotypes are a form of printmaking that uses water-soluble crayons and watercolor paints. Participants use these materials to paint and draw on a plexiglass plate. The paints are allowed to dry and are then printed on an etching press using damp paper. Wet paper reactivates the water-soluble materials and results in a vibrant impression. This form of monotype is the form of printing we offer that is closest to drawing and painting.

In this workshop, participants will carve away the areas they want to remain white on a soft, easy-to-cut block. The image will be printed from the raised surfaces left on the block after carving. Relief printing is the oldest form of printmaking, and these prints are characterized by their bold contrast between light and dark areas.

Gelli printing is a form of monoprinting that uses a flexible, reusable plate, often called a Gelli plate, to create unique prints on paper.

In this workshop, participants will cut a simple design into contact paper (the adhesive vinyl used for lining shelves) and adhering it to a screen to create a stencil. This technique is great for bold and graphic  designs. 

Reduction relief printing is a method to achieve a multicolor print using one block. Participants will create an image by drawing using two to three different colors. Using their drawing as a guide, they will alternate between printing a color and carving to show the layer beneath.  

In this workshop, participants will carve a design on an easy-to-cut block. Participants color each area between the carved lines with ink, and transfer their design to paper using a baren.

Participants will use water soluble materials to paint directly on a screen, then apply a transparent base to create unique monotypes.

Participants will learn the basics of waterless lithography using polyester pronto plates.

Drypoint is a form of intaglio printmaking. In this workshop, participants will scratch a drawing onto an acrylic plate with a sharp needle. Burrs that result from the scratching trap and hold the ink after the plate is wiped clean. This creates a soft, heavy line that is unique to this type of intaglio. 

In this workshop, participants will create textured printing plates using various materials, then ink and print them to produce rich, layered images.
